Secretary Rubio meets with Israeli President Herzog to discuss security and regional ties

Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog to address issues related to Israel’s security and ongoing operations against Hamas. The talks also focused on efforts to secure the release of remaining hostages in Gaza.

During the meeting, Secretary Rubio expressed his condolences for the victims of the terrorist attack that took place in Jerusalem on September 8, which resulted in casualties among Israeli citizens.

Both Secretary Rubio and Israeli officials reaffirmed the importance of the strategic relationship between the United States and Israel. They also discussed potential opportunities for further regional integration.

According to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott, “Secretary of State Marco Rubio met today with Israeli President Isaac Herzog to discuss Israel’s security, and ongoing efforts to defeat Hamas and release all remaining hostages in Gaza.  Secretary Rubio offered his deepest condolences to the Israelis killed and injured in the horrific terrorist attack in Jerusalem on September 8.  Secretary Rubio and the Israeli officials affirmed the strategic relationship between the U.S. and Israel and discussed opportunities for regional integration.”
