The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs has announced a reward of up to $5 million for information that leads to the arrest or conviction of Juan José Ponce Félix, also known as “Jesús Alexandro Sanchez Félix” and “El Ruso.” Ponce Félix is identified as a leader within the Sinaloa Cartel, an organization designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by U.S. authorities.
According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Ponce Félix founded and leads Los Rusos, which serves as the primary armed wing for La Mayiza. This group operates as a major faction within the Sinaloa Cartel. The La Mayiza faction oversees the production and trafficking of fentanyl, cocaine, marijuana, heroin, and methamphetamine from northwest Mexico into the United States.
Over the past ten years, Ponce Félix has faced several indictments in both the Central and Southern Districts of California. The charges include racketeering, drug trafficking, firearms offenses, and money laundering.
The current reward offer is part of the Narcotics Rewards Program (NRP). According to officials: "Today’s reward offer is authorized by the Secretary under the NRP, which supports law enforcement efforts to disrupt transnational crime globally and bring fugitives of FTO-designated cartels to justice as a key pillar of President Trump’s 'America First' priorities."
Individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact DEA agents via phone or encrypted messaging at +52-55 2312 3768 or email at RusoTips@dea.gov. Those outside the United States can approach any U.S. Embassy or Consulate; those inside may contact local DEA or FBI field offices.
The Department emphasizes that all identities will remain confidential and notes that government officials are not eligible for rewards.
