Last week, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) launched Operation Midway Blitz in Chicago, focusing on the arrest of criminal non-citizens. The operation was named in honor of Katie Abraham, who died in a drunk driving incident involving Julio Cucul-Bol, a non-citizen residing unlawfully in Illinois.
Secretary Kristi Noem visited Chicago to join law enforcement during arrests related to the operation. She stated, “President Trump has been clear: if politicians will not put the safety of their citizens first, this administration will. I was on the ground in Chicago today to make clear we are not backing down,” said Secretary Kristi Noem. “Just this morning, DHS took violent offenders off the streets with arrests for assault, DUI, and felony stalking. Our work is only beginning.”
According to DHS, those arrested include individuals charged or convicted of crimes such as felony assault, domestic violence, murder, unlawful use of weapons, sexual assault, battery, drug trafficking, and multiple DUIs. Among those listed were Christian Alejandro Lopez-Cervantes (Mexico), Mauricio Garcia-Vasquez (Mexico), Aldo Salazar-Bahena (Mexico), Gabriel Soto-Rivera (Mexico), Catalino Alejandro Lux-Saquik (Mexico), Javier Garcia-Diego (Mexico), Jose Gonzalez-Ortiz (Mexico), Jose Patino-Juarez (Mexico), Rosalio Pelayo-Salgado (Mexico), Jean Carlos Aranda Gonzalez (Colombia), and Luis Manuel Carrasquel-Hernandez (Venezuela).
The operation targets non-citizens who have committed serious crimes and reside in Illinois under sanctuary policies.
