Ernst recognizes Great Western Supply Co. as Iowa small business of the week

Collin Carney, owner of Great Western Supply Co., has been recognized by Chair Joni Ernst as the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee's Small Business of the Week. The recognition is part of an ongoing effort by Chair Ernst to highlight a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties during the current Congress.

“Since taking the helm nearly four decades ago, Collin Carney has helped Great Western Supply Co. mop up the competition while providing clean, budget-friendly building management solutions,” said Chair Ernst. “Great Western Supply Co. is known for its polished operations and continues to shine in serving its customers across Iowa.”

Carney acquired Great Western Supply Co., based in Burlington, Iowa, in 1986 when it was struggling financially. Since then, he has expanded the company’s offerings to address growing needs for janitorial and food service supplies. The business now operates storefronts in Davenport and Marion as well, employing about 30 people across three communities.

In addition to his business activities, Carney supports local residents through involvement with One Eighty, a nonprofit that offers residential recovery programs for individuals facing crisis, poverty, or addiction. He provides employment opportunities for several participants from One Eighty and promotes a supportive work environment.

Chair Ernst will continue her initiative to recognize exceptional small businesses throughout Iowa with her weekly award.
