Davenport man receives over seven years in prison for possessing child pornography

A Davenport man, David Anthony Tumea, has been sentenced to 87 months in federal prison for possession of child pornography. Tumea, 44, was living at a residential reentry center as part of his supervised release following a 2014 conviction for possessing an unregistered firearm and ammunition as a felon.

According to court documents, staff at the reentry center discovered four flash drives inside Tumea’s hat when he entered the facility. This discovery led to searches of his vehicle and room, where additional storage devices and a cell phone were found. Authorities seized a total of 27 devices from Tumea; multiple devices contained child sexual abuse material.

After serving his prison sentence, Tumea will be subject to ten years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $35,000 in restitution. There is no parole in the federal system.

Tumea’s supervised release for his previous conviction was revoked by the Court, resulting in an additional 18-month imprisonment term that will run consecutively with his new sentence.

United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentencing. The Scott County Sheriff's Office conducted the investigation.

The case falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse through coordination among federal, state, and local resources.
