Federal grand jury indicts Grand Junction man on fentanyl distribution charges

Shawn Burket, a 43-year-old resident of Grand Junction, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute and for possessing a firearm as a prohibited person. The indictment was returned on October 4, 2023, and Burket was arrested on November 14, 2023.

According to court documents, the alleged offenses took place in Clear Creek County around August 2, 2023. If convicted of the narcotics charge, Burket faces a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years in prison. He is currently being held in federal custody pending trial.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Idaho Springs Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Al Buchman is prosecuting the case.

"The charges in the indictment are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt," stated officials from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado.
