The U.S. Department of the Treasury has reported progress in its efforts to modernize information technology systems within the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The department is focusing on improving taxpayer services, enhancing cybersecurity, strengthening compliance, and optimizing filing season operations.

To advance these goals, the Treasury has established a series of Blanket Purchase Agreements with technology providers whose commercial tools are already approved under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP).

One initiative involves extending a contract with Salesforce to improve taxpayer-facing services. This includes enhancements to individual and business online accounts, as well as the Tax Pro Online Account and authenticated online services such as customer contact centers.

For tax processing modernization, the Treasury continues its Zero Paper Initiative aimed at reducing paper-based filings and promoting digital adoption. Contracts have been signed with Iron Mountain along with GovCIO, VASTEC, and 22nd Century to support this transition.

Additionally, Palantir has been awarded a contract to develop a unified API layer that will help improve data integrity and technical infrastructure. This partnership is expected to support developer platforms, workflow automation, and data analytics for federal employees.

The Treasury Department stated it will continue working with industry partners and using new technology solutions to reach its modernization objectives. The department plans to provide updates as more contracts are awarded and further milestones are achieved.
