President Donald Trump recently highlighted the progress of the Convention of States (COS) initiative on his Truth Social account. He shared an article from Just the News titled "Convention of States effort surges as Trump aims at shrinking size, scope of federal government," written by Amanda Head and published on September 21. The article discusses the potential impact of a limited-purpose Article V convention, including addressing national debt and imposing term limits on federal officials.

The report notes that past presidents like Washington, Lincoln, and Reagan have supported the Article V convention mechanism but none have officially endorsed it. "Trump could change that," according to Just the News. Mark Meckler, President of Convention of States Action, emphasized Trump's role in leading this movement: "There’s nobody more important and more appropriate to help lead the charge than President Trump." Meckler also remarked on the movement's significance: "I think the future of the country is at stake... There's also a fundamental structural reform that has to take place at the level of the federal government that will never be done in Washington, DC."

The Trump administration includes several COS supporters such as Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Nearly 3 million Americans have signed a petition supporting a convention under Article V to propose amendments aimed at fiscal restraints and limiting federal power. Currently, 19 states have passed resolutions for this purpose out of the required 34.
