Broken Arrow man receives eight-year sentence for attempted receipt of child pornography

Clinton J. Johnson U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma

A Broken Arrow man has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for attempting to receive child pornography and arranging to meet a minor, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson.

U.S. District Judge John F. Heil, III, handed down a 96-month sentence to Danny Lawrence Newton, 43. After serving his prison term, Newton will be on supervised release for 15 years and must register as a sex offender.

According to court records, Newton began communicating with someone he believed was a 14-year-old on social media in June 2024. During their conversations, he requested photos from the minor and discussed sexual activity. He later arranged an in-person meeting at an address provided by the supposed minor. Law enforcement detained him when he arrived at the location.

Newton remains in custody awaiting transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Robert and investigated by Homeland Security Investigations along with the Skiatook Police Department, Pryor Police Department, and Tulsa Police Department as part of Operation Clean Sweep II. This operation works with the Tornado Alley Child Exploitation and Trafficking Task Force to pursue child predators within the Northern District of Oklahoma.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 that coordinates federal, state, and local efforts against online child exploitation and abuse offenders.
