Tony Brown, 34, a convicted felon from the District of Columbia, has been sentenced to 28 months in federal prison for illegally possessing a Ruger pistol. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Brown pleaded guilty on June 26 before Chief Judge James E. Boasberg to unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by someone previously convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison. In addition to his prison sentence, Brown will serve 18 months of supervised release.
According to court documents, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department were patrolling the 5200 block of A Street, SE, on May 14, 2025. An officer noticed the handle and magazine of an unholstered pistol visible under Brown’s shirt while he was seated in a marked police cruiser. When the officer approached and greeted Brown, he fled and led police on a brief foot chase.
Officers apprehended Brown after the pursuit. They observed what appeared to be a handgun below his right knee and discovered a black Ruger Model 57 loaded with 14 rounds of 5.7x28 caliber ammunition that had slipped down his leg during the chase. Brown was initially charged with carrying a firearm without a license.
Brown’s criminal record includes a prior conviction in 2017 for being a felon in possession of a firearm in the District and another conviction in 2018 for assaulting a law enforcement officer in Prince William County, Maryland.
The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John Fucetola along with former Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Sumaiya F. Ismail.
"Tony Brown 34, a convicted felon residing in the District of Columbia, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court to 28 months in prison in connection with his illegal possession of a Ruger pistol," announced U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
