Birmingham man pleads guilty to plotting murder-for-hire targeting family

A Birmingham resident has admitted guilt to charges related to a murder-for-hire plot, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona.

Mohammad Mohammad, 64, of Hoover, Alabama, entered his plea before U.S. District Judge Madeline H. Haikala. He pleaded guilty to seven counts of murder for hire.

Court documents indicate that in September 2024, Mohammad met with an undercover law enforcement officer whom he believed was a contract killer. During the meeting, Mohammad discussed arranging and paying for the killing of his wife and six adult children.

Each count carries a statutory maximum sentence of ten years in prison.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jonathan S. Cross and William R. McComb are handling the prosecution.

"There is no place for violence or threats against one's family," said U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona in announcing the plea.
