Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with Republic of Korea Foreign Minister Cho Hyun in New York City during the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week. According to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott, both officials reaffirmed the strong U.S.-ROK Alliance and expressed their intention to promote a forward-looking agenda.
The meeting included recognition of the recent U.S.-Japan-ROK trilateral session held on September 22, which focused on advancing peace, security, and prosperity in the Korean Peninsula and Indo-Pacific region. Both parties reiterated their commitment to achieving complete denuclearization of North Korea.
Landau highlighted the importance of Korean investment for supporting American reindustrialization and boosting shared economic prosperity. He referenced investments announced during the August 25 U.S.-ROK Presidential summit as examples of this collaboration.
Both sides agreed to establish a bilateral working group aimed at making travel to and investment in the United States easier. They also discussed the significance of achieving concrete results as South Korea concludes its year as host for APEC, especially during APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Gyeongju.
"This meeting underscores our shared resolve to strengthen cooperation across economic and security matters," said Landau.
