Jason M. Frierson U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Nevada
A Winnemucca resident, Tyler Monson, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison and 10 years of supervised release for transporting a minor across state lines for sexual activity. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Miranda M. Du.
Court documents show that between December 31, 2024, and January 2, 2025, Monson communicated with a 15-year-old girl from Littleton, Colorado via Snapchat. During their conversations, Monson falsely claimed to be 16 years old and living in Colorado. The two exchanged nude photographs, and Monson sent the victim $2,000 through Venmo before arranging to meet in person. He traveled from Nevada to Colorado to engage in sexual activity with the minor. On the return trip to Nevada with the victim, Monson sexually assaulted her multiple times.
Monson pleaded guilty to one count of transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.
Acting United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and Special Agent in Charge Christopher S. Delzotto for the FBI Las Vegas Division announced the sentencing.
The investigation involved cooperation among several law enforcement agencies: the FBI, Elko County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, and assistance from the Winnemucca Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Megan Rachow prosecuted the case.
The prosecution was part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse by coordinating efforts among federal, state, and local agencies.
