A Muskogee resident has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of assault resulting in serious bodily injury. According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Tommy Lynn Byrd, Jr., 37, admitted guilt to one count of Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in Indian Country. The offense carries a potential sentence of up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The indictment stated that on January 9, 2025, Byrd assaulted an individual, causing serious injuries. The incident took place in Muskogee County within the boundaries of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservation.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Muskogee Police Department.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson accepted Byrd’s plea and ordered a presentence investigation report. Sentencing will be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
Byrd is being held by the United States Marshals Service until sentencing.
