U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, working with the San Diego Sheriff’s Office (SDSO) Border Crime Suppression Team, intercepted a vehicle attempting to cross into Tijuana, Mexico, resulting in the seizure of 12 firearms and a large quantity of ammunition. The incident took place on September 14, 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to prevent cross-border crime.
According to CBP officials, officers stopped a silver Ford Explorer after receiving intelligence from SDSO. A CBP K9 trained in detecting currency and firearms alerted officers during an inspection of the vehicle. Inside, they found seven rifles, four Glock pistols, one Ruger pistol, various magazines, and ammunition concealed within the car. The driver was arrested by SDSO deputies.
San Ysidro Port Director Mariza Marin stated: “The success of this operation highlights the importance of maintaining alliances within the law enforcement community. The collaboration of intelligence and resources proved effective in keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of criminal organizations.”
The seized items will be processed as evidence while authorities continue their investigation. Both CBP and SDSO affirmed their commitment to addressing threats from cross-border criminal organizations through continued cooperation.
CBP describes itself as America’s largest law enforcement organization with over 65,000 personnel responsible for protecting U.S. borders on land, air, and sea.
