Davon Sargent, a 30-year-old resident of the District of Columbia and previously convicted felon, was sentenced to 14 months in prison for illegal possession of a firearm. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Sargent pleaded guilty on June 18, 2025, to unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon. In addition to the prison term, he will serve three years of supervised release.
Court documents show that on September 17, 2024, Metropolitan Police officers were patrolling the 1400 block of H Street when they saw a black Chevrolet Cruise with its trunk open that failed to stop at a red light. Officers stopped the vehicle in a parking lot on the 1500 block of Maryland Avenue NE and found Sargent as the only occupant.
An officer noticed Sargent leaning forward with his right arm between his thighs as if hiding something. Suspecting he might be armed, officers asked him to exit the car. Upon exiting, Sargent tried to push past officers in an attempt to escape. During the struggle, one officer felt what appeared to be a handgun at Sargent’s waistband. Officers subdued him and recovered a loaded black 9mm Glock 26 pistol from under his clothing.
Sargent had previously pleaded guilty to carrying a pistol without a license and was therefore prohibited from possessing firearms.
The Metropolitan Police Department investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Emory V. Cole.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro stated: "Sargent pleaded guilty June 18, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson to unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon."
Judge Berman Jackson ordered that "in addition to the 14 month prison sentence... Sargent [will] serve three years of supervised release."
The prosecution emphasized that "Sargent previously had pleaded guilty to carrying a pistol without a license and therefore could not lawfully possess firearm."
