The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will host a roundtable discussion on October 9, 2025, focused on protecting older adults from scams related to Medicare and health insurance. The event will feature experts from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), and Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP).

According to the FTC, scams targeting Medicare and Marketplace Open Enrollment periods are common, with fraudsters attempting to steal money and personal information or selling health plans that offer little or no coverage. The panel will address ways to recognize and avoid these scams, as well as dishonest business practices connected to health insurance and Medicare.

Participants will also learn where to access free and reliable help to compare and select health coverage. The roundtable is scheduled for October 9, 2025, from 1 to 2 p.m. ET, and can be joined online via the FTC's Zoom platform or by phone.
