The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) has submitted new recommendations to the White House, aiming to streamline AI policy. The global tech trade association suggests that the Trump Administration can boost U.S. innovation and AI adoption by addressing federal regulations and policies that are conflicting or outdated.
ITI's response to the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) highlights how current federal regulations hinder AI innovation due to misalignment and frameworks not keeping pace with technological advancements. The association stresses that reforming these regulations should be accompanied by organizational changes across the public sector.
To facilitate rapid deployment of advanced AI technologies, ITI emphasizes the importance of upskilling the workforce for complex technology implementations and modernizing data capabilities. Aligning the federal marketplace with private sector practices is also deemed essential.
Additionally, ITI calls for collaboration between the Administration and Congress to establish a federal AI baseline. This would prevent a costly state-by-state approach that could impede America's leadership in AI. "To meet the ambitious goals outlined in President Trump’s AI Action Plan, policymakers must ensure that U.S. policy and regulation is effective, clear, and flexible enough to account for AI and other emerging technologies," said ITI Vice President of Policy Courtney Lang.
Lang further appreciated the Trump Administration's efforts in evaluating how government policies can evolve to support U.S. AI innovation. She emphasized focusing on creating a federal AI framework, updating outdated policies, and fostering an environment conducive to innovation.
