Sidney Campbell, a 45-year-old resident of Honolulu, has been charged by criminal complaint with illegal possession of firearms as a convicted felon. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Ken Sorenson.
According to the complaint, on May 15, 2025, Campbell allegedly possessed a loaded firearm and ammunition and transferred them to another individual. Campbell has six prior felony convictions in Hawaii, including a first-degree burglary conviction from 2001, which prohibits him under federal law from possessing firearms.
The complaint further alleges that on October 25, 2025, Campbell broke into a storage locker in Pearl City and stole firearms and ammunition. Surveillance video captured Campbell breaking into the locker. After his arrest, Campbell admitted to the break-in and provided information that enabled the FBI to recover three pistols, six rifles, and various gun parts such as barrels, magazines, firing bolts, and two suppressors.
If found guilty of these charges, Campbell could face up to fifteen years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
“The charge in the criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. In the case of conviction, any sentence would be imposed by a United States District Judge based on the statutory sentencing factors and the advisory United States Sentencing Guidelines,” according to the press release.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation with support from the Honolulu Police Department and assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America. This national initiative coordinates resources from several Department of Justice programs such as Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) to address violent crime by targeting illegal immigration activities and transnational criminal organizations.
