Cedric Carr, 34, has been sentenced to 33 months in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm while on supervised release. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and took place on October 7, 2025.

Carr pleaded guilty on February 20, 2025, to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Court Judge Contreras ordered that Carr serve three years of supervised release after his release from custody.

According to court documents, on October 27, 2024, at around 8:30 a.m., Carr was seen drinking from an open bottle of red wine outside the entrance to the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station. Two Metropolitan Police officers approached him after noticing the bottle and asked for identification. When Carr handed over a bank card and turned away from the officers while reaching for his waistband, one officer grabbed his hand and found a loaded Smith & Wesson M&P 40 semiautomatic pistol tucked into his waistband. The gun had previously been reported stolen by the Atlanta Police Department.

At the time of this incident, Carr was already on supervised release following a conviction in 2018 for using a firearm during a crime of violence—a case for which he received an 84-month sentence.

The Metropolitan Police Department investigated this case. Assistant U.S Attorney Michael L. Barclay prosecuted the matter.

"This matter occurred on date indicated but not published at that time due to government shutdown. Press release posted and made available following the return to normal operations," according to an editor's note included with the announcement.
