Face Rock Creamery LLC, based in Bandon, Oregon, has announced a voluntary recall of 16 units of its 6-ounce Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar cheese. The affected products have a use-by date of November 4, 2026. The recall was initiated after an environmental sample collected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) detected Listeria monocytogenes in the processing area where the cheese was packaged.

According to Face Rock Creamery LLC, "We initiate this recall due to the FDA environmental sample identified the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the processing area where this cheese was packaged. Finished product has not been tested positive for any contaminants."

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. While healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, listeria infection can also lead to miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled Vampire Slayer Cheddar Block was sold only at Face Rock’s flagship store at 680 2nd St. SE in Bandon between November 10 at 3:30 p.m. PT and November 13 at 3:30 p.m. PT. Customers who purchased the product during this period are advised to destroy it or return it to the retail location for a full refund.

Face Rock Creamery stated, "Face Rock Creamery LLC remains committed to the highest standards of food safety and transparency. We are actively working with regulatory authorities and have taken immediate steps to ensure the integrity of our production environment." The company added, "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and thank our customers for their continued trust."
