U.S. Attorney’s Office charges over 180 people for immigration crimes in Arizona

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

During the week of November 8 to November 14, 2025, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona charged 184 individuals with immigration-related crimes. Of these, 107 cases involved illegal re-entry into the United States, while 67 were related to illegal entry. Additionally, nine people were charged with smuggling illegal aliens within Arizona, and one person was charged with assaulting a Border Patrol agent.

Federal law enforcement agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE ERO), ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Border Patrol, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) supported or referred these cases.

Two notable recent cases include United States v. Martin Diego Ramirez-Granillo and United States v. Anthony Shawn Hobbs. On November 12, Martin Diego Ramirez-Granillo was charged with transportation of an illegal alien and reentry after removal following a traffic stop by an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper who suspected human smuggling. Both Ramirez-Granillo and his passenger were found to be Mexican citizens in the country illegally; Ramirez-Granillo had previously been removed from the United States.

On November 13, Anthony Shawn Hobbs was charged with transporting illegal aliens for profit after being observed driving with multiple occupants in his vehicle on State Route 82. When stopped by Border Patrol agents, four illegal aliens were found in his car.

“These cases are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).”

A criminal complaint is a formal accusation; all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
