Murray County man pleads guilty to illegal firearm possession

A resident of Davis, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a firearm, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Leran Ortiz Pittman, 41, admitted to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The offense carries a maximum penalty of fifteen years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

According to the indictment, Pittman knowingly possessed a semi-automatic pistol on January 7, 2025. He had previously been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Davis Police Department.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Jason A. Robertson accepted Pittman's plea and ordered that a presentence investigation report be completed. Sentencing will be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge after consideration of federal sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.

Pittman is currently in the custody of the United States Marshals Service as he awaits sentencing.
