Ernst names Boernsen Bees as Iowa small business of the week

Boernsen Bees, a family-run business based in Osceola County, Iowa, has been recognized as the Small Business of the Week by U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, who serves as Chair of the Senate Small Business Committee. This recognition is part of Senator Ernst’s ongoing initiative to highlight small businesses across each of Iowa’s 99 counties during the 119th Congress.

“Since 2004, Boernsen Bees has kept their business buzzing, promoting environmental stewardship across the Midwest, and delivering un-bee-lievable honey products straight from the hive,” said Chair Ernst. “The Boernsen family’s commitment to community education and to producing healthy, natural goods reflects the best of the heartland’s small business spirit.”

Founded by Marlene Boernsen in 2004 with an initial focus on providing her children with healthy foods, Boernsen Bees began by selling raw honey at local farmers markets. Over time, it expanded its offerings to include more than 18 different products such as creamed honey in over 20 flavors, honey lemonade, body lotions, lip balms, beeswax candles, and other items. The company also supports beekeeping enthusiasts throughout the Midwest by supplying bees and basic beekeeping equipment.

Senator Ernst intends to continue this series by recognizing additional small businesses from around Iowa.
