The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has allocated $4,287,000 to the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE), following efforts by Senators Chuck Grassley and Susan Collins. This funding will allow CIGIE to continue its operations through January 30, in line with the current Continuing Resolution.

OMB is also conducting a programmatic review of CIGIE’s activities during this period. The decision comes after Grassley and Collins sent a letter to OMB Director Russell Vought urging the release of funds for both CIGIE and the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee (PRAC). Last year, Senator Grassley called for more clarity from CIGIE regarding its spending records.

In a joint statement, Grassley and Collins said, “We are pleased that following our continued outreach, OMB is releasing the funding that Congress provided for CIGIE to continue its vital work. This action, building on OMB’s earlier decision to release funding for PRAC, ensures that these important oversight entities can remain focused on delivering the accountability American taxpayers deserve. Our oversight of the administration’s actions, and CIGIE’s work, will continue.”

Both senators have been advocates for strong oversight mechanisms in government. They played leading roles in passing the Inspector General Reform Act of 2008, which created CIGIE to improve integrity and effectiveness across federal agencies by enhancing professionalism among Inspectors General personnel.
