A Davenport man has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Court documents show that Rodolfo Tellez Gutierrez, Jr., 23, discarded a gun out of a vehicle window during a traffic stop. Authorities also found messages on Gutierrez’s phone related to the sale of the recovered firearm.
After serving his prison sentence, Gutierrez will be under supervised release for three years. Federal law does not allow parole.
United States Attorney David C. Waterman of the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentencing. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation.
The case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by fostering cooperation between law enforcement and communities. The Department of Justice strengthened PSN in May 2021 with strategies focused on building trust, supporting prevention organizations, setting enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes. More information about Project Safe Neighborhoods is available at Justice.gov/PSN.
