Daniel Zimmerman, Assistant Secretary of War for International Security Affairs | Wikipedia
Assistant Secretary of War for International Security Affairs Daniel Zimmerman recently traveled to Romania to discuss defense cooperation and NATO commitments. According to Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell, Zimmerman's visit focused on strengthening the bilateral defense relationship and advancing the shared goal of implementing NATO's 5% defense spending pledge.
During meetings with Romanian officials, Zimmerman reaffirmed the United States' commitment to NATO. He highlighted that U.S. decisions regarding military posture reflect the progress made by NATO allies in improving their own defense and deterrence capabilities.
Zimmerman also emphasized the Department of War's intention to continue close collaboration with Romania and other allies. The aim is to further strengthen NATO amid growing security challenges. He noted efforts to support allies as they take greater responsibility for Europe's conventional defense.
As part of his visit, Zimmerman met with U.S. troops stationed in Romania and toured the Romanian-led European F-16 Training Center. This center provides training for both Romanian and Ukrainian pilots and demonstrates Secretary Hegseth's emphasis on increased European burden-sharing within NATO.
