A New Orleans man has pleaded guilty to attempting to send obscene material to a minor, according to an announcement from Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson. Mark Brooks, also known as “Baby Nu,” age 35, entered his plea before United States District Judge Barry W. Ashe.
Court documents show that on May 1, 2025, Brooks contacted an FBI undercover employee who was posing online as a fifteen-year-old girl named “Ava.” After being told by “Ava” that she was only fifteen years old, Brooks continued communicating with her in a sexually explicit manner. He sent several videos of himself engaging in sexual acts, including some recorded at his workplace and inside a residence.
Brooks also discussed meeting the person he believed to be a minor for sexual activity. On May 13, 2025, he suggested they meet at a restaurant near his home and then return to his residence for sexual contact. Law enforcement arrested Brooks as he walked from his home toward the restaurant.
Brooks faces up to ten years in prison, three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee. He may also be required to register as a sex offender. Sentencing is scheduled for February 12, 2026.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse by coordinating federal, state, and local resources.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Louisiana State Police for their work on the case. Assistant United States Attorney Jordan Ginsberg is prosecuting.
