U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, who chairs the Senate Small Business Committee, has named Paullina Hardware of O’Brien County as her latest Small Business of the Week. This recognition is part of Ernst’s ongoing effort to highlight a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties during the 119th Congress.
“Paullina Hardware has hammered home what it means to support a small-town community, offering reliable service, essential goods, and a friendly face when it’s needed most,” said Chair Ernst. “Eric and Heidi Brown’s commitment to preserving hometown convenience and meeting O’Brien County’s needs has truly strengthened the nuts and bolts of their community.”
Eric and Heidi Brown bought Weidaman’s True Value Hardware in 2018. The store was renamed Paullina Hardware, continuing over five decades of service in Eric Brown's hometown. In 2025, they expanded by acquiring Shea’s True Value Hardware in Primghar, making it their second location.
The business offers more than hardware products. It provides bike repairs and recreational rentals such as kayaks and paddleboards. Recently, Paullina Hardware introduced coffee equipment sales and home-brewing education for local residents.
Senator Ernst will continue this weekly recognition program throughout the current Congress.
