House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington said on Mar. 30 that using a second reconciliation package is the legislative tool needed to "Make America Safe Again," during an appearance on “My View with Lara Trump” on FOX News.

Arrington discussed how previous shutdowns were linked to policies from the COVID era and issues such as law enforcement safety and sanctuary cities. He said, "We've had shutdowns over fraud-ridden COVID-era policies that are propping up failed programs like Obamacare and why we've had needless shutdowns over stopping the deportation of criminal aliens and demasking our law enforcement agents—putting them in harm's way and compromising their safety and supporting sanctuary cities. So, yes, that's [the Democrats’] mindset right now."

He described reconciliation as "the most potent legislative tool" for enacting significant policy changes, referencing past legislation involving tax cuts, spending reductions, domestic energy production, and business investment growth. Arrington said this approach should be used again: "That's the same tool that we need to use to Make America Safe Again—supporting our troops so they can finish the job in Iran and we can resource them adequately, but also make a down payment on how we fight wars into the future. And I have confidence that we can do what we did in the first, as an all-Republican exercise, to accomplish that."

Speaking about President Trump's role in national security efforts, Arrington said: "The President is a man with a bias for action... Thank God for President Trump, who said no more. And now it’s not just Iran or Venezuela—it's all of our adversaries who are put on notice... And he's going to make sure that oil begins to flow again in the Strait of Hormuz." He added there may be disruptions due to these actions but argued they serve long-term interests.
