Robert J. "Bob" Troester U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma
Kantrell Dawan Henderson, 34, of Oklahoma City, has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for assaulting a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.
The incident occurred on October 19, 2024, when officers from the Oklahoma City Police Department responded to reports of an assault on a mail carrier in a local neighborhood. Witnesses stated that while delivering mail, the carrier was confronted by Henderson and placed in a chokehold. A passerby intervened and pulled Henderson off the mail carrier, allowing the victim to escape. Officers later arrested Henderson after a brief confrontation.
Henderson was charged on August 6, 2025, with assault on a federal officer or employee and pleaded guilty one week later. He admitted to assaulting a federal employee who was performing official duties.
During sentencing on November 25, 2025, U.S. District Judge David L. Russell imposed an 18-month prison term followed by three years of supervised release. Judge Russell cited the seriousness of the offense and Henderson’s criminal history as factors in determining the sentence. According to public records, Henderson previously had felony convictions for second-degree arson (Oklahoma County District Court case number CF-2016-9248) and possession of a controlled substance (case number CF-2016-9100). At the time of the assault, he was serving suspended sentences for both offenses.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Oklahoma City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Nichols, Jr., prosecuted the case.
