The United States government has announced a new policy aimed at addressing violence against Christians in Nigeria and other countries. The initiative comes in response to attacks by radical Islamic terrorist groups, Fulani ethnic militias, and other violent actors.

Under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, the State Department will now have the authority to restrict visas for individuals who have directed, authorized, significantly supported, participated in, or carried out violations of religious freedom. This measure may also extend to their immediate family members when appropriate.

President Trump commented on the issue, stating, “The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other countries.”

The new policy is intended to apply not only to Nigeria but also to any governments or individuals involved in violations of religious freedom globally.
