Repeat offender receives over three years in prison for illegal firearm possession

Kordarow Moore, 36, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, has been sentenced to a total of 39 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to illegally possessing a firearm as a felon and violating the terms of his federal supervision. The sentencing took place on December 1, 2025, before U.S. District Judge William M. Conley.

Moore was stopped by law enforcement on September 22, 2024, for speeding at 101 miles per hour on Interstate 94 in Jefferson County—over 30 miles per hour above the speed limit. After being arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, officers searched his car and found a loaded AK-47 style rifle with an extended magazine containing about 40 rounds and one round chambered under the front passenger seat.

At the sentencing hearing, Judge Conley commented on the severity of Moore's actions: "The type of firearm possessed by Moore posed a deadly threat to others and went far beyond a need for personal protection." He also said it was "inexplicable that Moore would possess a firearm, let alone this type of firearm, while under the Court’s supervision for another federal offense and while intoxicated."

The investigation leading to these charges involved cooperation between the Wisconsin State Patrol, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the ATF Madison Crime Gun Task Force. This task force includes federal agents from ATF as well as state and local officers working throughout the Western District of Wisconsin. Assistant U.S. Attorneys David J. Reinhard and Kathryn Ginsberg Ostrow prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America—a national initiative by the U.S. Department of Justice that focuses resources from its Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) programs to address violent crime linked to illegal firearms possession.
