TBC Distribution Corporate, based in Brooklyn, New York, has issued a recall for its Lucky Foods brand Cinnamon Powder 40g with a best before date of September 15, 2027. The recall was prompted by concerns that the product may contain elevated levels of lead.
The company stated that short-term exposure to low levels of lead may not produce symptoms, but increased blood lead levels could be an early indicator of exposure. More serious signs and symptoms are possible with higher or prolonged exposure. Lead can affect nearly every system in the body, and its impact depends on the amount and duration of exposure as well as age and body weight. Children exposed to enough lead over weeks or months risk permanent damage to the central nervous system, which can result in learning disorders and developmental problems. In adults, chronic lead exposure is linked to kidney dysfunction, high blood pressure, and neurocognitive effects.
The affected cinnamon powder was distributed between April 11 and September 1, 2025, to various retailers including grocery stores, convenience stores, supermarkets, delis, bakeries, and restaurants across California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Texas.
The product comes in a vacuum or modified atmosphere 40g pouch with a brown label featuring the Lucky Foods brand at the top. The best before date is printed on the bottom of the back label.
No illnesses related to this recall have been reported so far.
According to TBC Distribution Corporate: "The recall was the result of an analysis conducted by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets (NYSAGM) that revealed the product contained elevated levels of lead. The company has ceased working with the supplier of the product."
