Goochland man receives five-year sentence for providing drugs leading to fatal overdose

A Goochland resident has been sentenced to five years in prison for distributing cocaine and fentanyl that led to a fatal overdose. According to court records, Don Carnell Batchelor Jr. provided the drugs to a friend, identified as “SN,” on August 20, 2021, in Richmond after SN requested them. SN later used some of the substances while visiting family and was found dead the next morning at his parents’ home. The medical examiner concluded that the cause of death was toxicity from both cocaine and fentanyl.

The sentencing announcement was made by Lindsey Halligan, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Christopher C. Goumenis, Special Agent in Charge for the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Washington Division; and Lee S. Bailey, New Kent County Sheriff, following Senior U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson’s decision.

“The Virginia State Police assisted in the investigation of the case.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivia L. Norman prosecuted this case.
