A Detroit man, Kevin Lavon Giles, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for sex trafficking offenses involving two minors and one adult. The sentence was handed down by Judge Terrence G. Berg after a seven-day trial in July 2025. United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon, Jr. announced the conviction and sentencing.
Giles, 59, was found guilty of two counts of sex trafficking children through force, fraud, or coercion and one count of sex trafficking an adult using similar methods. According to evidence presented at trial, Giles exploited his victims by requiring them to engage in commercial sex acts in exchange for shelter for themselves and their children. Two of the victims were under the age of 18 at the time.
Testimony revealed that Giles posted advertisements for commercial sex acts on behalf of all his victims, arranged appointments with clients, and collected the money earned from these activities. Witnesses also testified that he used hidden cameras to monitor and direct the actions of his victims during these encounters.
U.S. Attorney Gorgon stated: “The defendant is wicked and loathsome. He forced women and girls to sell their bodies while he watched. The court sentenced him. But the full measure of justice is waiting for him.”
Jennifer Runyan, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Detroit Field Office, commented: “Coercing and trafficking women and children is an evil crime that must be stopped. FBI Detroit remains committed to protecting vulnerable people in our society and stopping anyone who seeks to exploit them. I want to recognize the dedicated members from the Southeast Michigan Trafficking and Exploitation Crimes (SEMTEC) Task Force for their outstanding investigative work throughout this case, as well as the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan for their successful prosecution in securing this lengthy sentence.”
The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Southeast Michigan Trafficking and Exploitation Crimes Task Force (SEMTEC). Assistant U.S. Attorneys Diane Princ and Ranya Elzein prosecuted the case.
