The United States has issued a statement condemning the continued detention of current and former local staff members of its mission in Yemen by the Houthis. According to the statement, the Iran-backed Houthi group, which is designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, has increased efforts to intimidate and abuse Yemeni citizens who are connected with international organizations and foreign governments.

"The Houthis’ arrests of those staff, and the sham proceedings that have been brought against them, are further evidence that the Houthis rely on the use of terror against their own people as a way to stay in power. We call for the immediate and unconditional release of the Mission staff," said the U.S. government.

This situation reflects ongoing tensions between international actors and the Houthi movement in Yemen. The United States continues to urge for an end to these detentions and seeks accountability for actions taken against individuals affiliated with foreign missions.
