A federal jury in Chicago has found Jimil Parmar, a 33-year-old resident of Lawrenceville, Georgia, guilty of mailing a threatening letter to the Sant Nirankari Mission located in West Chicago. The incident occurred in July 2023 when Parmar sent a letter that read, “CANCEL US CANADA TOUR IMMEDIATELY SRS ATTACK PLANNED.” This threat coincided with the visit of Satguru Mata Sudiksha Ji Maharaj, the spiritual leader of the Mission, who was on tour across the United States and Canada at that time. Her scheduled appearances included stops in both Chicago and Atlanta.
Authorities reported that at least four other Sant Nirankari Missions within the United States received identical letters during the same period. All these letters were postmarked from the Atlanta metropolitan area.
The verdict was delivered after a three-day trial in U.S. District Court in Chicago. Parmar was convicted on one count of mailing a threatening communication, an offense that carries a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison. Sentencing is scheduled for March 4, 2026, at 1:15 p.m., before U.S. District Judge Matthew F. Kennelly.
The conviction was announced by Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Douglas S. DePodesta, Special Agent-in-Charge of the FBI’s Chicago Field Office. The Atlanta Field Office of the FBI provided assistance during the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kavitha J. Babu and Ramon Villalpando are representing the government in this case.
