The Subcommittee on Federal Lands convened a legislative hearing today to consider seven bills aimed at improving conditions for military families, updating infrastructure at the Grand Canyon, and establishing Chiricahua National Park as the country's newest national park.

Subcommittee Chair Tom Tiffany (R-Wisc.) commented on the subcommittee’s focus and recent work. "As we near the end of the year, I want to highlight the productivity of this subcommittee. This year, we have prioritized legislation to strengthen the resilience of our communities, modernize critical infrastructure, and improve the management of America’s public lands. Today is no different. Today’s legislation will address issues brought about by outdated federal policies and propose commonsense solutions to ensure safe housing for military families, broadband access for rural communities, and the restoration of fire-damaged landscapes."

The measures reviewed include proposals that would allow the Department of War to repair unsafe military housing and streamline administrative steps for deploying broadband services in rural areas. The committee also discussed expediting recovery efforts on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon after damage caused by the Dragon Bravo Fire, as well as authorizing an emergency exit route in Wintergreen, Virginia.

In recognition of America's approaching 250th anniversary, several proposals were advanced: one designates Chiricahua National Park as the 64th national park; another ensures merchandise sold in national park units is produced domestically. These initiatives are part of efforts to implement President Trump’s Executive Order 14189 concerning America’s 250th birthday celebrations.
