Diane J. Sabatino highlights National Guard anniversary and new CBP biometric measures

Executive Assistant Commissioner Diane J. Sabatino shared a series of posts on December 13, 2025, highlighting key initiatives and commemorations by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Office of Field Operations (OFO).

In a post published at midnight, Sabatino discussed the significance of historical artifacts at the National Targeting Center: "History and purpose converge in Part 2 of the National Targeting Center tour. Explore the iconic artifacts, a girder from the World Trade Center and a brick from the Pentagon, that serve as daily reminders of the vow to protect our nation. #NTC #DHSInnovation #CBPproud" (December 13, 2025).

Later that day, Sabatino recognized an important milestone for the National Guard: "OFO proudly celebrates the National Guard's 389th birthday! Serving since 1636, they protect communities at home & defend our nation abroad. Their dual mission as both state and federal responders makes them a cornerstone of national security & emergency preparedness." (December 13, 2025). The National Guard is known for its longstanding role in domestic emergency response and military operations overseas.

In her third post, Sabatino referenced a recent Department of Homeland Security announcement regarding biometric data collection: "Last November, DHS announced that CBP will collect facial biometrics from noncitizens at entry and exit points to enhance security. U.S. citizens may opt out by notifying a CBP officer or airline representative. Read more here: https://t.co/iWTKktyRXf #OFOproud" (December 13, 2025). This initiative aims to improve border security while providing an opt-out option for U.S. citizens.

The National Targeting Center plays a critical role in supporting homeland security efforts through advanced targeting and intelligence operations. The use of biometric technologies by CBP is part of broader federal efforts to modernize border management systems while addressing privacy concerns for travelers.
