Centerville Produce has been named Small Business of the Week by Chair Joni Ernst as part of her ongoing effort to recognize businesses across all 99 counties in Iowa.
“Centerville Produce has been seeding success and feeding Appanoose County for generations,” said Chair Ernst. “From selling livestock feed to pet supplies, this hometown staple proves a family business can stay cool under pressure and make a lasting impact.”
The business was founded in 1951 as a small family operation. In 1995, Ryan Stober, a veteran, bought the store from his grandfather and expanded its products and reach. This year, ownership transitioned to Mike Spurgeon, a longtime employee. Centerville Produce now serves farmers, pet owners, and outdoor enthusiasts throughout the region. Under Spurgeon’s leadership, the company continues to reflect the resilience and community spirit often seen in Iowa’s small businesses.
Chair Ernst plans to continue highlighting outstanding small businesses in Iowa through her Small Business of the Week award.
