Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, has expressed concerns regarding U.S. aid to Europe, suggesting that previous leadership overextended support, which weakened American capacity. He emphasized that Europe must now increase its efforts to partner effectively in global security.

"Under Biden, Europe treated America like it was some papa at Christmas. Generous sentimental giving far more than we could afford," said Cortes. "The world doesn't need a fading granddad. Instead the world needs a strong America. And a strong America requires America First. America First isn't selfish. It's responsibility."

Cortes posted a video message on X discussing U.S.-Europe relations and advocating for a shift in policy. He used historical analogies to illustrate what he perceives as America's past overgenerous support to allies under President Biden, arguing that this approach depleted resources. Cortes advocated for "America First" policies to restore strength and ensure responsible international partnerships.

According to recent data, European NATO allies and Canada have collectively reached 2.02 percent of GDP on defense spending in recent years, marking progress toward alliance goals. This increase reflects responses to security challenges and commitments made at summits. Further plans aim for higher investments to enhance collective capabilities and reduce reliance on leading contributors.

The United States maintains defense spending at approximately 3.4 percent of GDP, providing the largest absolute contribution within NATO. This level supports extensive global commitments and essential capabilities for the alliance. U.S. expenditure in dollars exceeds the combined total of other members, underscoring its central role in alliance security.

Cortes is a political commentator and former financial strategist who worked on Donald Trump's 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns. He has appeared on major networks including CNBC, Fox News, and CNN. Cortes founded the League of American Workers to advocate for economic policies benefiting U.S. citizens.
