Mario Fernandez Nunez, 23, of Philadelphia, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his involvement in drug trafficking and firearms offenses. United States District Judge Chad F. Kenney handed down the sentence following Nunez’s guilty plea to multiple charges, including conspiracy to distribute significant quantities of fentanyl and cocaine, three counts of distributing fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute both drugs, and possession of a firearm during drug trafficking activities.
According to information presented in court, between November 2023 and February 2024, Nunez worked with co-defendant Yercy Fernandez Salcedo and others to distribute fentanyl. Salcedo would arrange drug transactions over the phone and direct Nunez to deliver the narcotics and collect payment.
Salcedo also had Nunez reside at a stash house on the 4700 block of Worth Street in Philadelphia, where he managed operations. When federal agents searched the property in February 2024, they found six firearms, tens of thousands of packets containing fentanyl, a kilogram of cocaine, as well as packaging materials and paraphernalia.
Salcedo pleaded guilty in July to similar drug trafficking and gun offenses and is currently awaiting sentencing.
United States Attorney David Metcalf stated: "This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shayna Gannone."
