The Subcommittee on Federal Lands convened a legislative hearing to discuss five bills focused on wildfire response, patriotic traditions, and support for rural communities. The session included measures aimed at standardizing wildfire suppression efforts and supporting local economies.

Subcommittee Chairman Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.) commented on the hearing, stating: “Today, the Subcommittee on Federal Lands heard legislation that honors the life and legacy of our late friend and colleague Representative Doug LaMalfa. We will continue his fight to protect America’s beautiful federal lands and rural communities by empowering commonsense wildfire management, improving Forest Service response, and limiting burdensome red tape.”

Among the bills discussed was H.R. 4038, known as the Wildfire Response and Preparedness Act of 2025. Introduced by Representative Kim Young (R-Calif.), this bill seeks to address forest health issues by establishing standardized response times for wildfire suppression. It also supports President Trump’s executive order on wildfire prevention.

The Star-Spangled Summit Act of 2025 (H.R. 4684), introduced by Representative Mike Kennedy (R-Utah), would allow a long-term display of an American flag at a Utah summit as part of preparations for America’s 250th anniversary.

Representative Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.) introduced H.R. 6300, the Grasslands Grazing Act of 2025. This bill aims to create parity among federal grazing permit holders in an effort to promote rangeland health and benefit rural Western economies.

Other legislation considered included H.R. 926, which would direct a study of Fort Pillow in Tennessee for possible designation as a national battlefield park; and H.R. 3922, which would require the Government Accountability Office to examine wildfire mitigation efforts across both federal and non-federal lands.

For additional details about the hearing, more information is available through official committee resources.
