The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is calling on Vermont lawmakers to back reforms to state health insurance regulations included in House Bill 585. The organization, which represents over 800 small business owners in Vermont, says the bill addresses longstanding concerns about affordable health coverage for small businesses.

“Vermont small businesses and their employees deserve more affordable health coverage options,” said John Reynolds, NFIB Vermont State Director. “Seventy-five percent of Vermont small businesses are shut out of small group market coverage because it is unaffordable or impractical. House Bill 585 removes outdated barriers to affordable coverage options, reduces premiums, and enhances options for small businesses and their employees.”

According to NFIB Vermont, the proposed legislation would eliminate certain regulatory obstacles that have limited access to group health insurance plans for many smaller employers. More details about NFIB’s support for the bill can be found at VT House Bill 585 Will Deliver Better Health Coverage Options – NFIB.

Hearings on HB 585 are scheduled this week in the Vermont House Committee on Health Care, with testimony planned for Wednesday and Thursday. The written testimony from NFIB Vermont is available HERE.

NFIB has been advocating for independent business owners nationwide since its founding in 1943 and continues to focus exclusively on issues affecting small businesses.
