Senators introduce resolution recognizing National School Choice Week

U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, Tim Scott (R-SC), co-chair of the Congressional School Choice Caucus, and Ashley Moody (R-FL) have introduced a resolution in the Senate to recognize January 25-31 as National School Choice Week. Representative John Moolenaar (R-MI) has introduced a similar resolution in the House of Representatives.

Dr. Cassidy stated, "Children should have every opportunity to succeed in school, regardless of income or zip code. This National School Choice Week, we celebrate giving parents the power to choose the best education option for their child."

Senator Scott added, "National School Choice Week is a celebration of opportunity and a reminder that education is not one-size-fits-all. When families have a choice, kids have a chance! My life’s experience attending schools with fewer resources as well as schools offering greater opportunities has shown me the importance of empowering parents to choose quality education for their kids. Having more good teachers and mentors can change the direction of one’s life. It certainly did for me!"

Senator Moody said, "A student's future should never be determined by their zip code. Every family should be able to choose the learning environment that meets their child's unique needs. In Florida, we got that right. On National School Choice Week, we reaffirm our commitment to bringing this winning approach of educational freedom nationwide to ensure students everywhere are set up for success."

Representative Moolenaar commented, "Students deserve to have the chance to pursue the best education available to them, one that provides the best environment for learning, and one that provides them the opportunity to reach their highest potential. Parents must have a role in their child's education. I am grateful for the support of my colleagues as we introduce this resolution to recognize parents' rights in their children's education."

The Senate resolution is co-sponsored by several senators including James Lankford (R-OK), Katie Britt (R-AL), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Tom Tillis (R-NC), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Pete Ricketts (R-NE), John Boozman (R-AR), Mike Lee (R-UT), Rick Scott (R-FL), Steve Daines (R-MT), Jon Husted (R-OH), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Jim Banks (R-IN), Jim Justice (R-WV), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Jim Risch (R-ID), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Ted Budd (R-NC), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), John Cornyn (R-TX), Todd Young (R-IN) and Tommy Tuberville (R-AL).
