A Billings woman has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for her role in distributing methamphetamine, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme.

Stephanie Marie Nava, 37, pleaded guilty in September 2025 to possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. She received a sentence of 60 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters.

Court documents revealed that on June 26, 2023, the Billings Police Department identified an apartment belonging to Nava as a location used for drug storage by her co-defendant. Officers executed a state search warrant at the apartment where Nava was present and stated she did not know what her co-defendant stored there. During the search, police found seven grams of fentanyl pills and 16.7 grams of methamphetamine in a back bedroom.

Law enforcement also searched a hotel room in Billings and seized approximately 2.77 pounds of methamphetamine. Investigators determined that this amount was originally eight pounds before most had been distributed elsewhere. Another search at a separate residence resulted in the seizure of eight ounces of methamphetamine. Authorities reported that both the original eight pounds and redistributed quantities were coordinated through Nava and her co-defendant while they were in Mexico.

The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Montana, with investigations conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Billings Police Department.
