U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced the opening of a temporary pedestrian facility at the Calexico West Port of Entry. The new facility is set to begin operations on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 10 a.m. It will be located one block east of the current pedestrian crossing areas.
The temporary building will feature up to eight processing lanes designed to increase capacity and facilitate more travel between Calexico, California, and Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. All pedestrians entering or exiting through this port must use the temporary facility until a permanent structure is completed, which is expected in 2029.
Standard services such as inbound processing, I-94 issuance, immigration benefits, and cashier services will continue to be available at the temporary site.
Officials stated that there will be no parking allowed in front of the temporary facility at First Street and Heffernan Avenue. This area will be reserved exclusively for emergency and government vehicles and will not serve as a drop-off or loading zone.
Travelers are encouraged to check wait times using the CBP Border Wait Times website or by downloading the Border Wait Times mobile app for their smartphones.
