The House Energy and Commerce Committee is one of the oldest standing committees in the U.S. House of Representatives; it was established in 1795 as the Committee on Commerce and Manufactures according to its official website. The committee oversees federal agencies such as the Department of Energy while addressing issues related to energy policy, health care, environmental protection, telecommunications and consumer matters (source). It has played a role in shaping policies around infrastructure development including broadband expansion as well as public health initiatives (source).
The upcoming markup session continues this tradition by considering legislation focused on grid resilience and cybersecurity within critical energy infrastructure.
