The U.S. Senate has passed several provisions aimed at reducing prescription drug prices and addressing the role of health care intermediaries. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), who chairs the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, commented on the bipartisan nature of these measures.
“As a doctor, I’m focused on lowering costs for Louisiana families. Republicans and Democrats agree that drug discounts are meant to reduce drug prices, not pad the profits of health care middlemen,” said Dr. Cassidy. “These bipartisan, bicameral policies deliver on President Trump’s efforts to make health care affordable and put patients first.”
The newly approved policies have received backing from various organizations representing workers and patients. Among those supporting the provisions are the America First Policy Institute, National Community Pharmacists Association, The ERISA Industry Committee, Partnership for Employer-Sponsored Coverage, Purchaser Business Group on Health, National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions, Silicon Valley Employers Forum, and the CHRO Association.
